The first e-shelter data center in Switzerland was opened in June 2011 in Rümlang near Zurich. The building consists of two parts and comprises in the first part altogether approximately 7,000 sqm. highly available data center space. In the new building which will be used exclusively as a data center state-of-the art technologies will be employed to ensure maximum energy efficiency, in particular cooling technology. Heat pumps are used to heat large office and storage space outside the data center and stored rain water is used to clean the refrigeration systems. Furthermore, the building also received the LEED Platinum Certification from the US Green Building Council.

e-shelter monitors security with its own 24/7 security control and command centers with personnel from e-shelter security. Standardized security procedures, access controls and the 7-step security system protect the rented areas and technical operations.
